“ I have probably 30 Dylan songs on my iPod,” said Barack Obama in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine published on June 25, 2008. “Maggie’s Farm” is “one of my favorites during the political season,” says Obama. “It speaks to me as I listen to some of the political rhetoric.”
President Jimmy Carter was also inspired by “Maggie’s Farm,” and he cited it’s influence in a 1974 address of Social Justice.
Carter said: “I grew up as a landowner’s son. But I don’t think I ever realized the proper inter-relationship between the landowner and those who worked on a farm until I heard Dylan’s record, “I Ain’t Gonna Work on Maggie’s Farm No More.”
