Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting)On June 6, 1987, The Prince’s Trust organized an All Star” concert at Wembley Arena in London, which included outstanding performances by Bryan Adams, Eric Clapton, George Harrison and Elton John.  This concert was awarded a Grammy for “Best Live Performance Video.”

Elton’s live rendition of “Saturday Night’s Alright (For Fighting)” is considered by critics as his best live version of the song.

“Saturday Night’s Alright (For Fighting)” was written by Bernie Taupin and composed by Elton John for his 1973 album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.

Taupin has said that the song was meant to be his first attempt to write a rock and roll song that was totally English.  Inspired by his raucous teenage days, the song recalls fights that took place between the mods and rockers at his local pub, the Aston Arms in Market Rasen on the North of England.

Elton John recorded the song standing up to give it more vocal “oomph.”

The song is covered by W.A.S.P., Nickelback and The Who.

Elton John has the unique distinction of charting a Top 40 single every year from 1970 to 1996. He has sold over 200 million records, making him one of the most successful artists of all time, and has more than fifty “Top 40” hits including seven consecutive “No. 1” U.S. albums, 56 “Top 40” singles, 16 “Top 10s”, four “No. 2” hits, and nine “No. 1” hits. He has won five Grammy awards and one Academy Award.

John was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. He has been heavily involved in the fight against AIDS since the late 1980s, and was knighted in 1998.
