Live Nation just announced the August 1 booking of Paul McCartney at Washington D.C.’s Fedex Stadium, one of only five concerts scheduled for the summer. The Beatles made their historic American debut at the DC Colliseum on in February 11, 1964, and this is being promoted as a “homecoming” of sorts. Tickets for the DC event go on sale June 26 at Ticketmaster locations and at www.livenation.com.
McCartney will play in Halifax on July 15, and has added a third day to his scheduled concerts at NY’s new stadium, Citi Field (the first two concerts sold out in five minutes) for July 17, 18, and 21.
Although McCartney enjoys his concert events today, there was a long stretch in the 1980s where he stopped performing. That changed when The Prince’s Trust convinced McCartney to join their 10th Anniversary Rock Gala, and he’s been performing ever since.
“I had never considered going back on tour until I got the royals rocking at The Prince’s Trust concert, said McCartney. “I joined Tina Turner on stage …and the packed crowd went crazy. I had missed playing live shows but I didn’t realize how much until I did The Prince’s Trust gig. That concert left me feeing so good….”
We have released a video from that 1986 concert with McCartney and Tina Turner performing “Get Back” at Wembly Arena. This is available for purchase and download on iTunes Stores worldwide.![]()
